Carven - perfume and design house
Carmen de Tommaso was born in 1909 in Chatellerault. She studied interior design at L'ecole des Beaux Arts. Having difficulty finding clothing that fit her petite stature, she became interested in dress making. Renaming herself Madame Carven, she lauched the fashion house of Carven in 1945 at the Rond-Point des Champe-Elysees shop in Paris. Her first designs included her "Ma Griffe" (my mark) look, to which she lent the name to her debut fragrance in 1946, Ma Griffe, created by Jean Carles a Roure perfumer.
