Marc Jacobs Mod Noir - perfume for women

Mod Noir by Marc Jacobs - Inspired by Marc Jacob's favorite flower, the gardenia, this airy floral fragrance created by Marc and perfumer Jean-Claude Delville opens with dewy green notes, and leaves a sensual dry down scent of sparkling water and creamy musks. The packaging, designed by Established, was inspired by Jacob's Spring 2013 black and white stripes collection which plays on his love of juxtaposition in modern style. The round bottle with linear stripes and the matte frosted bottle with the shiny lacquer finished cap. Raymond Meier, world-renowned fashion photographer for Vogue and the New York Times shot the advertising campaign for this modern and sophisticated perfume for women. Available as an eau de parfum spray exclusively at Sephora.

Marc Jacobs Mod Noir

"Mod Noir is bold, modern, unique - a chic juxtaposition of classic and contemporary. The juice is a sophisticated Eau de Parfum featuring top notes of lush, dewy greens, mid notes of fresh gardenias floating on sparkling water, and dry notes of sensual, creamy musks.

Top notes - Sparkling Clementine, Exotic Yuzu, Dewy Greens
Mid notes - Floating Waterlily, Airy Magnolia, Gardenia Petals, Sheer Tuberose
Base notes - Sensual Musk, Orange Blossom, Fresh Nectarine

The bottle is innovative and graphic, a play of bold black and white stripes. The shiny lacquer over-shell cap contrasts against frosted glass bottle that reveals the juice." --marcjacobs.com (Sept. 2015)

Clean Fragrances
Fragrance has traditionally been expected to express a mood or it clings to. But some of the best new scents don't set out to seduce us or unfurl a faceted heart, petal by petal. They have scrubbed-down, aired-out notes that yield a prim, spotless, proverbially pure effect - and it's refreshing as hell.

Mod About Marc
A white floral perfume can be so...prissy. But add some crisp greens and sultry musks, bottle it all in a black-and-white striped flask, and stamp on the words Marc Jacobs -- and then? It's just cool.

Marc Jacobs
The New York design legend shares the story behind his new fragrance, Mod Noir. Marc Jacobs Mod Noir Eau de Parfum, $90; sephora.com

I'm a big believer in 'wear what you like.' - it then becomes part of your presence, your look, or your whole attitude. That's how something becomes signature. - Marc Jacobs

Whether it's conscious or not, certain smalls bring me back. It's like I drift off to a place, or a thing, or a person when a scent triggers me. My first scent memory could be Jean Patou's Joy. My grandmother always wore it. Or it might be Robert Piguet's Fracas or Red by Geoffrey Beene, which my mother wore. I love when a fragrance lingers. Sometimes we look at vintage items when we're doing research for our handbags, and when you open them, you can smell a woman's perfume inside a 40-year-old bag. All those things are quite romantic. ... For my new fragrance, Mod Noir, I went back to something that I think is very forever, very cool, and full of contradiction, like the black-and-white stripes from my spring 2013 collection. ... It has a gardenia note that gives it a very modern, sophisticated, intoxicating smell. I use the word sophisticated to mean that there's a deepness or a darkness. Dark doesn't necessarily mean dark but sultry, sexy, adult." (As told to Celia Ellenberg)
