The Story - A lifelong desire to travel to Morocco finally came to be. We ventured from Casablanca to Marrakech, exploring the Atlas Mountains on camelback, and visiting the coastal town of Essaouira, where we watched cooperatives make argan oil. Shopping the souks of Marrakech for local jewelry and antiques was probably my favorite activity. I love to wear these great pieces and remember time spent in distant cultures.

Our driver, Mohammed, invited us to his home for tea with his family. In their village in Ourika Valley, we entered a primitive stone structure, where Berber men sat eating lamb and couscous. The scent of mint leaves, fresh-cut for tea, was present in the damp air. As we sipped from tiny cups, I quietly took in this experience and was grateful for their incredible hospitality. Before we left, I bought a small, carved jade camel from Mohammed's family. Staying at La Mamounia was like wandering into an Arabian fantasy. The corridors were scented with cedar and fig. And the resort's lush gardens were filled with citrus trees and spectacular desert blooms. Jasmine flowered on the vine, and mint tea steeped at every table. I travel with a few vials of my favorite oils and like to create scents that reflect certain moods and destinations.

The soft, velvety fabrics that draped the rooms and the creamy scent of jasmine that permeated the air - and my dreams - were key in the making of this perfume. The smooth finish of Moroccan wines gave me the inspiration to add a vanilla note. I wore this fragrance as we explored the dark, mysterious nature of Marrakech. Celebrating one evening with champagne at Bo-Zin, we met the most wonderful French couple, drawn to us by the scent's seductive trail. After dinner, mesmerized by a mix of hip-hop chill, we all began to move to the music.

A local man helped me up onto a small coffee table, where I danced as if I was 20 again. Then, he challenged me to a twisting contest. A crowd gathered as we taunted each other to go lower and lower. I don't know how, but I beat this man at his own game. Exhausted and fragrant with vanilla and jasmine, we exited to a sea of applause. I am forever grateful to be able to live life each day as if it were my last. It's been some years, but we still stay in touch with our dance partners from that night, hoping to meet again in another foreign land.
