Givaudan, fragrance manufacturer
Givaudan is a Swiss flavoring and fragrance manufacturer. It was founded in 1895 by brothers Leon and Xavier Givaudan in Zurich as a perfumery. Givaudan merged with the Roure Company (est. 1820, Grasse, France) in 1992. Louis Roure created the his first fragrance, Elsa Schiaparelli's Shocking in 1935. The Roure Perfume School, created by Roure perfumer, Jean Carles, in 1946 was retained and continues to train the world's future perfumers. Quest International, another flavor and fragrance manufacturer in the Netherlands (founded 1905) was aquired by Givaudan. Givauden acquired competitor Quest International in 2007. Givaudan is the world's largest company in their industry, as of 2008.
