About Calgon
Calgon bath and body care: Originally a water softening product of use in general bathing and cleaning, the powdered sodium hexametaphosphate prevented the formation of unwanted salts and interferance with soap and detergents. The name was derived from "CALcium GONe". Calgon, the water softener product, was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and first on the market in 1933. Their bath and beauty product line was launched in 1946, with the famous "Calgon, Take me away!" slogan was a big hit in the 1960s. Calgon, in 1968, was acquired by Merck and later broken into various companies, including the bath and beauty line of products which was sold to Coty, Inc. In 2007 Calgon was acquired by Ascendia Brands, and in 2008 by Ilex Capital. In 2010, Calgon launched a new fragrance line including around 30 new fragrances. PDC Brands, formerly known as Parfums de Coeur, purchased Calgon in December 2012.
