AEDES DE VENUSTAS honors the past, present and future of perfumery with its first signature scent. Housed in aubergine glass the bottle disrupts classic rules of design with its round and square shape, hinting at the unique construction of the fragrance housed within its body. The circumference of the cap is uniquely positioned and adorned with the AEDES insignia.
A baroque yet futuristic ambience emanates from the skin as soon as the fragrance is applied, embodying the magic that is the AEDES DE VENUSTAS boutique.The mind questions, but the heart knows; a new experience anoints the wearer as it weaves a sensuous spell like no other before it. It is the first touch of AEDES DE VENUSTAS, a touch that will never be forgotten.
Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour describes the perfume as a game of supports in an unexpected, even improbably olfactory architecture because the green effect increases while the heavy dark resinous incense and chypre accord is largely deceasing and getting more abstract. On an interesting note many of the ingredients in AEDES DE VENUSTAS Signature Eau de Parfum have been sourced by Bertrand Duchaufour. The ominpresent Vetiver is from Madagascar where Mr Duchaufour himself traveled to meet the farmers and made sure it complied to fair trade practices.

Bath & Body Works Forever Red, $44.50 -- The store known for green-apple body splashes has grown up. This eau de parfum "contains a synthetic material that I love called Rhubofix -- a nuclear-powered rhubarb fruit scent that smells hot and loud," says Chandle Burr [curator of the department of olfactory art at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City]. (Others that contain it are Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose and Aedes de Venustas Eau de Parfum, which both cost around $200.) The reality is that synthetic ingredients are not always cheap imposters. "Sometimes the chemical reproduction of a natural scent is more accurate than the ingredient from nature itself," says [perfumer Francis] Kurkdjian.

West Village perfume shop Aedes de Venustas, one of our favorite places in New York City, has created its own unisex scent. It's in the chypre family, but without the hippie patchouli vibe. The main notes are rhubarb and vetiver (lots and lots of it).

To create the first stand-alone fragrance for New York's beloved olfactory boutique Aedes de Venustas, proprietor Robert Gerstner said, he and partner Karl Bradl, along with perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, followed a simple credo: "No limitations." The result, Aedes de Venustas Signature Eau de Parfum -- also available as candle and soap -- is robust and vibrant with, Gerstner says, a "constantly changing" unisex aroma that surpasses any single ingredient's scent, whether Madagascar vetiver, tomato leaf, or incense. The perfume's green, rhubarb core emulates throughout its lighter and heavier notes, paying no heed to the traditional top-base-bottom fragrance pyramid. Even the crimson-tinted glass bottle's packaging -- a burgundy velvet box inspired by a swatch of fabric cut from the store -- was chosen to connote the boutique's feeling of indulgent opulence.
