Layering Fragrances
The entry-level way to mix is either by spraying two single-note perfumes on top of each other, or by adding a dash of one to a perfume that already contains that note. ... Some women swear by their own advanced version of layering. "I prefer the freshness of a light fragrance during the day, and in the evening I like a scent to be a bit heady," says Cayli Cavaco Reck, a fashion consultant whose blog is Style Sovereign. "But because I tend to like fragrance in the same family, I can generally layer them on top of each other, starting with the lighter one in the morning and then touching up in the evening with a stronger scent." For running around the city. she starts with the ladylike floral Live in Love by Oscar de la Renta, and eases into evening by spraying the sexy, powdery Agent Provocateur on top. This combination works especially well because both scents contain amber and musky base notes: Agent Provocateur picks up where Live in Love leaves off.
