Flower of the Month - Water Lily Fragrances
Flower of the Month - Water Lily Fragrances
July is Water Lily month...
Not to be confused with the sacred lotus, recognized by Yoga-enthusiasts as synonymous with Bliss, the water lily (Nymphaea) is an aquatic rhizome herb that grows in temperate and tropical climates worldwide. From the Greek term related to "nymphs," feminine beings of the springs. From the Nymphaeaceae family, the water lily is rooted in the soil of a body of water with the flowers and leaves of the plant floating on the water surface. Their smell varies with the color of the bloom, some smell lemony while others can resemble Cherry 7-Up.
Since I grew up in the Midwest (a.k.a. The Frozen Tundra), and now live in the Southwest (a.k.a. The Arid Desert) I have no direct experience with water lilies, except for those floating on my screensaver in a Japanese Garden wallpaper...or are those lotus flowers...oh, who cares, they're pretty!
In honor of the month of July, we pay homage to the Water Lily.
