Scent Minimalism
It's like a riddle: What would a perfume that smells like nothing smell like? (Or, perhaps, why would anyone wear it?) There is, however, a surprise market for such fragrances, ones that either smell like the wearer's own skin or include ingredients that enhance her natural scent. Fotini Christia, an associate professor of political science at MIT, does research on conflict in the Middle East, where strong fragrances like ouds and incense are a matter of tradition. Though women she's met on her travels have tried to get her to wear those scents, Christia is loyal to The Body Shop White Musk, since it has, she says, a "freshly showered skin" quality. "It's important for me to have something that really blends in with my own scent."
