Harvest the Scent of Apples
Harvest the Scent of Apples
"Our grandmas has it so right when they told us 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away.' In fact, a recent Florida State University study found that women who ate 75 grams of dried apples (roughly equal to one fresh one) every day for a year saw their bad cholestrol levels drop a considerable 23 percent. For only 65 calories, one li'l apple delivers 20 percent of your dietary fiber, says culinary nutritionist Jackie Newgent."1
So, in celebration of the annual harvest, we are honoring the APPLE! Growing up in the rural Midwest, with several apple trees in just about everyone's yard, Fall brings to my mind the lucsious, succulent scent of apples. As an adult, living in the desert Southwest, this time of year means there are finally some McIntosh Apples at the local grocer's. My German great-grandmother was a culinary genius with this super fruit. Her legendary recipe's have been handled down through the generations. This month it was my mother's Apple Crisp that our family enjoyed, and for the upcoming Thanksgiving celebration, I'm making Grandma's famous Apple Crumble Pie for the gathering at my in-laws. So go ahead, surround yourself with the delicious scent of apples!
